Does Facebook Help Writers Spread their Work?

Having Facebook friends can be a good way of two-way communication. Unfortunately, not everyone uses it for the original intended purpose of sharing views and information in a constructive and civil way. Clearly, some Facebookers just want to increase their friend count.

If the “About page” is not filled in, and it often isn’t, we know nothing about the person making a friend request. Facebook is not an email service. But many use it as such. Comments like, “I’m on the train” are pointless and not of interest to those wanting to engage in meaningful conversation.

I am sending this note to all people who request befriending me.

“I accept Friend Requests only if you message me (or send an email to MattOwendRees@proton.me) to confirm that you are interested in the things I write about on Facebook. I also write and blog on www.MattOwensRees.com , on Substack, and Medium.
