A New Approach

I’m not the world’s authority on the lifestyle of the Thai and the social culture of Thailand, but I try to present true and factual information which I can share with my readers and followers. No Bullshit, no Clickbait.

As well as this website, I have been using the platforms of both Medium and Substack platforms to provide current and relevant information about Thai anthropology. Facebook is too big and censors posts in line with the owner’s personal views and bias. But, it’s useful for keeping in touch and my website gets visitors and followers from it.

If Substack’s instructions and the AI help line worked as it should, writers and readers could benefit from its claimed strengths. It is actually more powerful than WordPress and all other platforms.

But, it’s a nightmare to use. Bugs are not dealt with, its editor doesn’t function properly, and instructions are virtually impossible to follow. Like Medium, they are cutting back on staff and cannot deliver on their promises. The response time for queries and technical problems is 6 months! Both platforms are losing customers. I have also looked at Substack’s financial accounts. Their balance sheet is very weak.

To illustrate Thai lifestyle, customs, and anthropology, I often compare different cultures.

The New Approach

The answer, I think, is to use my website to communicate with my readers and followers by email, building real links with readers and encouraging comment between them (like Substack’s CHAT feature).

Readers can get information on my books by clicking Books by MattOwensRees on the website’s menu bar. We are working on allowing followers to then download the pdfs of books for free as an alternative to buying them. I don’t want to monetise, I want to communicate.

I welcome your views and hope to hear from you.

Matt
